The AI Field: At DevDay on Tuesday, OpenAI launched Dots: always-on agents powered by GPT-6 Astra, each with its own cloud computer and access to more than 4,000 apps. They are meant to chase goals in the background, not wait for the next prompt.
The details:
You can message a Dot in ChatGPT, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. Texting is coming. OpenAI says Dots learn preferences over time and can inspect their own computer while they work.
Built-in rules decide when a Dot may act alone and when it must ask. Custom Rules let you allow, require approval, or block specific actions. Sensitive steps such as changing a password stay with you. Background "proactive research" is limited to read-only tools on apps you already connected.
Dots are rolling out to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. The first Dot is included in those plans. Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare workspaces get a beta when an admin turns it on. OpenAI told press that Dots are not available yet in the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK. Specialist Dots for named enterprise jobs are in early pilots, with Microsoft Agent 365 integration in progress.
Why it matters: This is the always-on agent product OpenAI teased going into DevDay, shipped a day after it cancelled GPT-6.1 Astra for overreach and fuzzy reporting. The useful question is not whether Dots can start work without you. It is whether you can reconcile what they report with what the Activity View and tool logs show they did. Before you connect Slack, email, or a laptop, write the stop conditions and approval rules you would want a junior hire to follow.

Set approval rules before you connect a Dot to work apps
If you have access to Dots, do the boring setup before you give it real accounts. If you do not, run the same rules exercise on whatever agent you already use.
1. Create your first Dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or desktop browser. Give it a name and leave Slack, Teams, and laptop access off until step 3.
2. Open Custom Rules and write three lines: what it may read, what it may change only after approval, and what is blocked (payments, sending email, installing software, changing passwords).
3. Paste this as the first message, then connect one low-risk app and check Activity View after the first task:
"Restate my rules in three lines before you start. Use only read-only access until I approve a write. If a task needs sending a message, spending money, installing software, changing a password, or anything outside those rules, stop and ask. When you finish, list every action you took, including failed attempts."

The AI Field: OpenAI also launched ChatGPT Space, a shared home for team files and Pages that people, ChatGPT, and Dots can edit together. It is an open move into Microsoft and Google workplace territory.
The details:
Pages are documents built for human and agent edits: writing, research, charts, images, and live updates from connected tools. Space replaces Library as the shared home for that work.
Space is available on Pro, Business, and Enterprise on web and desktop. Mobile can find, read, and share pages; editing is coming. Collaborative slides ship in the coming weeks and can export to PowerPoint or Google Slides.
Business and Enterprise users can form teams and set Team Tasks that run on a schedule or on an event, such as a new Slack message. People can also @ChatGPT in Slack and Teams without every teammate needing their own licence; it asks before acting in connected tools.
Why it matters: The chatbot is no longer the whole product. If your team already drafts in ChatGPT, Space is the natural place to keep the brief, the deck, and the agent edits in one thread. The test is whether Pages stay consistent after a Dot revises them, and whether you still know who approved the final version.

META · SMALL BUSINESS
The AI Field: Meta launched Muse for Small Business on Tuesday, wiring its consumer agent into the tools owners already use to sell, advertise, and keep the books. Nothing posts, sends, or spends without approval, Meta says.
The details:
New connectors include Shopify, Stripe, Canva, Intuit QuickBooks, Slack, Zoom, Notion, Figma, Dropbox, Asana, Box, and more, plus Facebook Pages, Instagram professional analytics, and Meta ad accounts. Owners can add custom connectors for tools Meta does not list yet.
Muse launched earlier in September in the US and Canada and has been a top free app there. Reuters, citing Sensor Tower, put downloads around 2.8 million in the first two weeks. Meta says about one in three early testers connected a business account.
Most use stays free with paid plans for higher limits. Meta did not set separate pricing for the business skills. The launch follows Amazon removing Muse from its store last week over bot and credential claims Meta denies, and a Sep 28 report that Muse shared a Toronto seller's home address in a Marketplace chat.
Why it matters: OpenAI is selling always-on agents to Pro and business seats. Meta is giving small operators a free path into the same idea, with shop and ads already attached. For a founder, the test is narrower: connect one storefront or ad account first, require approval on every send and spend, and check whether Muse asks before it acts when the task gets messy.
